The Legend of the Sacred Cat of Burma
Centuries ago, beside a sparking lake and nestled in amongst majestic mountains, the temple of Lso-Tsun was guarded by 100 yellow-eyed cats with long, silken fur. The temple was the home of the sapphire-eyed, golden goddess Tsun-Kyan-Kse. One night the high Kittah priest, Mun-ha, was praying when ancient enemies of the Kittahs swept down from the mountains. Mun-ha lay dying after the attack and his faithful cat Sinh leapt upon the fallen body of his beloved master and gazed into the eyes of the eternal statue of the goddess. Behold, the fur of his white body became as the golden hue of the goddess, his eyes took on the sapphire blue of her gaze, his face, legs and tail became the velvety brown of the earth, while his paws remained pure white, up to the place the silk of his mater's garment touched.
Sinh refused to leave the body of his master and lay there until he too died.
The next day the silken fur of the remaining 99 guardian cats was transformed, as Sinh had been. Thus was created "The Sacred Cat of Burma".
The Birman breed is shrouded in mystery, just as it's legendary origin. What is known for sure is that around 1919, a pair of Birman cats was shipped from Burma to France. The male did not survive the arduous journey, but happily the female did and she was pregnant upon arriving in France. From this small foundation the Birman cat was established in the Western World.
